Digital radiography is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. This technique uses an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping the dentist detect problems easier. Digital x-ray treatment reduces radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.
Dental x-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information. Dr. Darling and Dr. Scimone use this information to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected.
PROFESSIONAL DENTAL CLEANING
A comprehensive dental exam will be performed at your initial dental visit. After you are an established patient your regular check-up exams with your dentist and hygienist will include the following:
This is used to fill in narrow pits and grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits which accumulate plaque, not because the person doesn't brush, but because they are too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. These will develop cavities over time, and you don't want that. So the dentist will brush on a coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy.
A composite tooth colored filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. Composite fillings are tooth colored and can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth. As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may someday have to be replaced. They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.
